Irish Championships – Easter Monday

The Irish short circuit motorcycle racing championship action moved on to Kirkistown on Easter Monday with a depleted entry as racers continue to pick and choose which race meetings they can afford to race at.

All day long there were a lot of crashes due to the extreme cold. Portadown’s Marshall Neill qualified on pole for the Superbike class but after he slid off in the Supersport class he decided not to race rather than risk any damage to Wilson Craig’s bikes.

Despite the reduced numbers of competitors those that remained served up some great racing none more so than Jonny Buckley (Ducati Panigale) and Nico Mawhinney (Suzuki GSXR1000) in the Superbike class who in both races were never separated by more than a couple of machine lengths with each one of them taking a race win apiece.
