Over the Quoile Cycling Sportive

Today I rode my first Cycling Sportive, a seventy five mile ride around County Down organised by the La Lanterne Rouge Cycling club.

Starting and finishing in Loughinisland the route swung round by Dromara to burn the legs on some hills including Dolly’s Brae (see pic below by Ralph Mills of me in the Castlereagh Cycling Club colours) in a loop round to Leitrim, Castlewellan and Seaforde before flattening out from Clough to Tyrella Beach, Minerstown, Killough, Ardglass and along to Strangford for a food stop at the Cuan to top up the energy levels. The route then continued in to a head wind to the Quoile River bridge and Crossgar then back to Loughinisland.

Seventy five miles completed in four hours thirty five minutes at an average speed of 16.4mph is comfortably my fastest average yet for a long cycle.
