The Hog Run

So there I was sat on the Sofa debating whether to take it easy on Sunday after all the miles I had cycled this Week when my mate Gavin sent me a text to see if I would join him and his Cycling club on a Sportive in Camlough. My initial thoughts were I was not going to drive all the way down there to ride my bike but then he told me there was a spit roast Hog dinner for all competitors at the end of the Cycle.

The Weather was perfect, dry, sunny, not too warm and only a gentle breeze to contend with, just as well because the first half and final section of the fifty five mile long route was hilly and challenging except for Gavin who kept lieing to me telling me “it is only a wee rise in the road“. We got ourselves registered in Camlough GAA Club, paid our entry fee, grabbed a quick drink and then went back to the Car to sort out the Bicycles and our riding gear prior to the mass rollout start at 10am.

The route took us from Camlough to Whitecross past Shaw’s lake and in to Markethill then left out the Coolmillish road up to Newtownhamilton for the first designated Water stop. After a very brief stop we were on our way again picking the pace right up until Silverbridge for the next Water stop then across the border and on in to almost Dundalk before turning and heading North again through Ravensdale and along past Camlough lake back to the GAA club to collect our finishers medals and the awaiting roast Hog. Another great day in the Saddle with good friends and great scenery.
