Is it really the first of November? Myself and the rest of the guys that turned up for this Mornings Castlereagh Cycling Club Sunday Cycle had to pinch ourselves as this Indian Summer delivered another unseasonably mild, dry and sunny day in the Saddle.
We set off down the Ormeau road through town, along the Shore road and left to go up the Doagh road through Newtownabbey to Ballyclare. The climbing continued as we went through Ballyeaston and round Ballyboley Forest and on to the Misty Burn where we stopped to replenish energy level. The lads tucking in to a five piece fry and myself showing restraint opting for the healthier Butternut Squash and Roast Pepper Soup with a Chicken Sandwich and a mug of Tea.
Back out in to the Sunshine and whether the legs wanted to or not it was straight back in to the climbing as we scended ‘Big Colin’ before descending to Tildarg then along Mill road to Brookfield and on to Mallusk, Glengormley and the Antrim road back to Belfast. Everyone then went their separate ways but it was just too nice a day to return home so early in the Afternoon so I took the Airport road round to Holywood and emptied the last energy from the legs climbing the Creightons Green road and over Craigantlet before descending down the back of Stormont to the Belmont road and home from 67 miles with 3,829 feet of ascent, another great day in the Saddle.
