Another dry, Sunny Morning as I left Belfast for Lisburn for my cycling clubs annual Sportive. I had barely gone a mile when I had to hurriedly stop and pull on the Arm warmers due to the chill in the Morning air.
With 180 miles in the legs this Week already it was hard to get the legs working so I opted for an easy start cycling through Grand Parade to the Ormeau road, down annadale embankment and then the pan flat Lagan towpath up to Drumbeg and in to Lisburn via Sandy Lane and Hilden. As I arrived at Lisburn Raquets club to sign on for the Phoenix CC Sportive sponsored by Phoenix Gas there was already a large crowd assembled, numbers swelled by the good weather no doubt.
All signed up and safety briefing over we rolled out in three separate, large groups taking the Ballynahinch road out of Lisburn through Legacurry and Annahilt to Kinallen then over the Gall Bog road to Katesbridge, Moneyslane, Ballward up the Devils Elbow and the fast descent down to Castlewellan for a quick Water stop.
Regrouped and refreshed we descended down the hill to Annsborough then left in to the Ballylough road and on to Drumaroad, Spa, Ballynahinch and back to Lisburn via Annahilt and Legacurry to refuel with the BBQ laid on by Phoenix CC.
The warm Sun was great and I could have happily sat on the grass a while longer but it was time to get back on the Saddle and head for home via Ballyskeagh, Drumbeg and Stranmillis. 79 miles door-to-door brought my tally for the Week up to 260 miles which should hopefully stand by me for a couple of upcoming events later this month the SQS Tech Challenge in Ballygalley and the Tour de Connemara.
