2010 Faugheen Road Races cancelled

Posted by Cleggy on Mar 4, 2010 in Announcements

Following on from the recent announcement of the cancellation of the Tandragee 100 the Faugheen 50 Supporters Club Ltd., have now also decided not to run the Faugheen Road races in 2010. Below is the statement issued by the club.

It is with great regret that the Faugheen 50 Supporters Club announces that they will not be running a motorcycle road race in the village of Faugheen, Carrick-on-Suir, Co. Tipperary this year, 2010. Unfortunately, due to the current economic climate the Club does not have the funds in advance of the road race weekend to meet expected bills.

The Club remains committed to running our road race in 2011 and will pursue with tremendous vigour a number of major fund raising events during 2010 in order to have sufficient funds in the bank, to pay bills, prior to running our road race in 2011. The cost of running the road race is in excess of €80,000.00, (these funds, in the main, are obtained during road race weekend from entrance to race days, racer entry fees, sales of programmes etc.), despite being provided with a substantial amount of ‘free’ or at ‘cost’ items and the goodwill of many local companies and individuals.

The Club’s Committee would like to thank the residents and landowners in and around the village of Faugheen for their continued support and hope that this support will continue into 2011, additionally we would like to thank our sponsors, local companies, South Tipperary County Council, Denis Landy Counsellor, Carrick-on-Suir Garda Station, the local Ambulance Services and Volunteers for their support and we look forward to working with you all in 2011.

Faugheen was one of those race meetings that I rarely went to for various reasons and whilst its cancellation is a bitter blow for all concerned, I’m sure the racers themselves will be glad of the free weekend.

Tandragee 100 cancellation

Posted by Cleggy on Jan 29, 2010 in Bike Racing

Last night those members of the North Armagh Motorcycle and Car Club who were present at their meeting voted by a small majority to not run the Tandragee 100 road race in 2010. Below is the press release issued by the club.

"Due to the current economic climate and circumstances beyond our control, the North Armagh Motorcycle and Car Club Ltd., have with regret taken the decision to defer the Tandragee 100 National Road Race for one year.

The Club has every intention to run the Race again in 2011.

The Club would like to extend grateful thanks to our sponsors and land owners for their continued support.
"

As one of those present at the meeting and having listened to all the behind the scenes information it is my opinion (for what it is worth) that the Club had no option other than to not run the race this year.

A blog posting is always better when accompanied by a Photograph, here is one of my images from practice night of last years Tandragee 100 where Andy Farrell ‘keeps er lit’ on the Cooley Hill road.
